In 2010, Port of Leith Housing Association published a guidance manual on the use of Community Benefit clauses. The document was funded by the Scottish Government Wider Role fund, and was written by Forth Sector Development, with legal detail provided by TC Young Solicitors.

Community benefit clauses offer RSLs the ability to introduce the contractual requirement upon a contractor to deliver a wider social benefit as part of a contract, for example in relation to the provision of targeted training or employment outcomes.
