Port of Leith Housing Association celebrated the official opening of its latest affordable housing development in Elliot Street by Malcolm Chisholm MSP on Tuesday 27th October. The project of 9 flats is an excellent example of contemporary housing on a tight urban site, providing new high quality and affordable city centre living accommodation.
The design by Smith Scott Mullan Architects takes advantage of the mature landscape on the edge of a quiet railway line, with large windows benefiting from passive solar gain and the views to the North. The new housing meets the very best space standards which ensure that the building is as accessible as possible, including on the ground floor design to incorporate wheelchair users standards. The scheme also complies with Secured by Design principles.
