Happy 100th birthday Babs!
13 February 2020
Barbara, ‘Babs’, was born on 13 February 1920 and lived on Constitution Street from 1991 until 2012 when she moved into Hermitage Court, one of our sheltered housing developments. We spent a lovely morning visiting Babs who received lots of well wishes from her friends and neighbours from over the years.
One of six siblings growing up, Babs went to Cooper Street Primary School and then to David Kilpatrick School (DKs). After school, Babs spent her days working at Crawford’s Biscuits where they made treats like shortbread, rich tea biscuits and cream crackers. Just before her birthday in 1939, Babs married George Hepburn Russell and had four children. Babs now has 17 grandchildren.

When she wasn’t travelling around Australia, Canada or America, Babs spent her time dancing or out at the bingo. She’d often be spotted driving her little Beetle car around the city. Babs has a talent for knitting and has knitted many garments in her lifetime.
Everyone at Port of Leith Housing Association would like to wish Babs a very happy 100th birthday!
