Lockdown bingo: Downloadable activity pack

1 May 2020

How do you play bingo in lockdown?  On 16 March we closed the doors to our sheltered development lounges and paused all our regular activities which put us in an exceptionally difficult situation. Our new priority became asking our older people to isolate themselves, a challenging ask when our whole ethos is about battling isolation and bringing people together.

Then came the idea…warden call bingo! We could use our warden call system to call out bingo numbers, leave a card on everyone’s doorstep and ask players to pull their cord when they had a line or a full house. Co-ordinators would then be able to safely place prizes on the doormats of every winner.

We could never have anticipated the response we had with nearly every tenant taking part, even those who would never have entertained the idea of bingo a few months ago. Warden call bingo is being played weekly in all over our sheltered developments along with quizzes and exercise routines. We are doing all we can to stay connected with our older people and have some fun along the way.

How to play

We’ve created a pack to help other developments set up a warden call bingo like ours. You can download and print instruction cards and playing cards (if you don’t already have a set) to use with your residents. If you don’t have a bingo machine you can use a random number generator online to call out your numbers. Don’t forget to keep a record of what’s been called out!

If you have any questions about our bingo or other lockdown activities, Maureen Combe, our Sheltered Housing Manager, is happy to chat. Email Maureen.
