Who won Leith’s Big Bake Off?

5 September 2019

From rainbow cakes and scones, to gluten free cheesecake and hearty loaves, Leith’s Big Bake Off was a treat for everyone!

Taking place before our 43rd Annual General Meeting at Thomas Morton Hall, Leith’s Big Bake Off featured an impressive 40 entries across six different categories including Best Under 16s and Best International Bake. The colourful array of cakes were joined by tasty submissions from five of Leith’s best bakeries: Bad Tempered Baker, Bakery Andante, Breadshare Bakery, The Kilted Donut and Mimi’s Bakehouse.

Leith, it would seem, is a community of cake lovers with some very talented local bakers. The Citadel Youth Centre stunned guests with their Leith themed cake which featured an exact replica of the much-loved Leith History Mural on North Junction Street. We also saw a fun ice-cream cake, rainbow cake and various indulgent mini-treats on the judging table.

At 6.30pm, as the AGM commenced, the last votes were collected from the oven (our trusted ballot box) . While bakers and taste-testers took their seats to hear about the work of Port of Leith Housing Association, our guest judges and partner bakeries gathered in the kitchen to sample the top three cakes in each category. It was a difficult, if enviable, task!

After much deliberation, the winners were announced and presented with their awards and certificates.
